The Office of Nuclear Security is responsible for coordinating and implementing the IAEA's nuclear security programme to prevent, detect and respond to acts of nuclear terrorism and threats thereof. It is part of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security and is organized into three sections: Information Management and Coordination, Prevention, and Detection and Response to Malicious Acts.

Software Engineer, Vienna

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Chief, Engineering and Development Section, International Monitoring System Division, (IMS), to: Identify, plan and execute projects and provide software engineering solutions in support of the installation, testing, operation and maintenance of the IMS.  This includes data acquisition, communications technology, computer networking applications, interface issues, data security/authentication, calibration, state-of-health monitoring, configuration management, incidents and problem management. Identify areas of potential improvements to the seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide data acquisition software and make improvements as required. Identify software needs.  Specify and write software project requirements and specifications. Select and define appropriate development tools and technologies and oversee the software development and lifecycle processes. Lead, participate and influence the software design and development process. Manage projects and coordinate multiple contractors, ensure proper software validation and testing procedures and manage software maintenance and evolution, ensuring software quality. Provide guidance and training. Perform other duties as assigned.
